   06-25-2008 - Monsanto Video aired in France-Germany
I found this documentary on Monsanto. It talks about Round-Up. Even though it's an interesting technology, I'm still afraid of any company that genetically alters the food supply. I didn't have enough time to watch the Monsanto Documentary so I made note of it here on my blog.

I have heard of monsato before and I couldn't remember where. I talked to David about it and he said that Jim Kramer (an expert on stocks) has been recomending that stock for the last few years. They have been doing a good job at getting profits. Now you know why. It seems a little unethical the way they are doing it, at least how the documentary portrays it. Tiff

The whole documentary was full of spin. If Monsanto had produced the documentary it would have had all good things. Conversely, the documentary was produced by someone who also had an agenda. I do not defend Monsanto but am pointing out spin. As I sat and watched, many points came to mind that could be argued to the contrary. It would take hours to dissect each segment to show the spin. Examples: they commented about the revolving door/ Monsanto is a large organization with highly educated people. To fill government positions, they too need highly educated people. If Monsanto employs 10,000 people and had a person with the right qualifications for a position, why not consider them? What is the alternative? Next point, having worked with Round-up first hand, I have also done my own literature review of its safety. At least twenty article have researched its safety on mammals. They had to resort to sea urchins to find toxicity from the molecule. A child can tell the difference between a sea urchin and a human. They were clearly digging for fodder. Next, they talk about the farmers in India and blame Monsanto, well, their own government has also sold them out. If Monsanto owned every seed company and they are charging four times the original rate of cotton for Bt cotton, then why not start a cotton seed business offering regular cotton for two-thirds the price? The farmers use it for a reason and nobody is stepping up to sell an alternative for a reason also. Next, they talked about the South American farmer spraying pesticide on the soy crop without protective gear. In the US we have laws and regulations dictating the use of pesticides and wearing protective clothing. If a farmer doesn\'t use protective gear is this Monsanto\'s fault? The label on the packaging says to wear protective gear. Next, the family where their son crosses the soy bean field has a rash on his leg, they too blame Monsanto. I do not defend Monsanto, however, it is clear there is an agenda.
